Girls First Communion Veil & Tiara Tips & Advise
With over 30 beautiful First Communion veil styles to choose from we offer one of the largest online selection of graceful and elegant First Holy Communion veils and headpieces to compliment all First Communion hairstyles.
If a little girl decides she wants to wear a First Communion veil, a First Communion veil will be the first veil a little girl has ever worn, so its important that it is chosen carefully.
GUIDE TO FIRST COMMUNION VEIL LENGTHS
19.5" veil will decent to approximately the shoulders
36" veil will decent to approximately the elbow / waist.
45" veil will decent to approximately the hipline.
The length is for the bottom tier. These are all approximate as girls are different heights and have different length arms
To see where the First Communion veil will fall on your little girl, measure (with a tape measure) from the point on her head where you plan on her wearing the veil, top of head or back of head, down to the desired length. Take into consideration how your little girl will be wearing her hair on the day of her First Holy Communion Day.
First Communion Tiara with First Communion Veil: Begin by holding the comb upside down, with the concave side upward. Both layers of tulle are pulled backward. The shorter layer, is on top.Rotate the comb forward with the concave side of the comb now downward, slide it into the hairSlide the tiara on at a 45-degree angle.Adjust the tiara so that there is no gap between the veil and the tiara. For a snug fit, you may have to gently bend the tiara band to fit the shape of your head. Note: the combs do not bend, only the headband or tiara style headpieces will bend If your tiara has pin loops, secure the tiara with hair grips through the pin loops to hold it in place.Cover the ends of the exposed band with hair.
TIP: If wearing your little girl is wearing her hair down, in order to avoid her First Communion veil from slipping through her hair, try forming a knot at the scalp by moving the veil comb in small circular movements close to the hair roots, then pushing the comb downwards and into place.
First Communion veil at top of head:
If she is wearing the First Communion veil at the top of the head, the First Communion veil should join the base of the First Communion tiara, with no gap. The First Communion veil may also be sewn onto the tiara with invisible thread.
First Communion veil at back of head:
If she is wearing hair down , with a circular flower wreath, the First Communion veil can be placed into back of hair into wreath. This way you can remove the First Communion veil after the Communion Mass and still wear the flower wreath. The First Communion veil may also be sewn onto the wreath with invisible thread.
When wearing hair up, a First Communion veil may also be attached at the crown or nape of neck, placing a veil in the back of hair looks great!
Tiara no First Communion Veil:
If you're little girl is wearing her hair down, without a First Communion veil, slant the First Communion tiara at 45-degree angle for best effect. Don't perch it on top of her head.
First Communion Veil Styles & Fullness
Comb Veil:
No gather - Also known as Mantilla veil, sits flat on the head and does not have any gathers. It can be held in place with a comb, hair clips or by attaching it to a headdress.
Half gather - A half gathered veil is more popular, the fabric is gathered onto the comb with the straight part falling down over your shoulders . A half gathered veil is often referred to as the ''Drop Shoulder'', as the sides of the veil fall onto the
shoulders in folds.
Centre gather - A centre gathered veil is similar to half gather, fabric is gathered onto a comb and placed at the back of the head. The fabric is gathered in the middle section onto the comb with the straight part falling down over the shoulders
Full gather - A full gathered veil gives the maximum amount of fullness, 'pouff'. the side folds are gathered right across the fabric up into the comb, so giving a much fuller veil around the head. The shorter the veil the fuller it will appear.
