How to shop and buy a girl’s First Holy Communion Dress
After months of preparation, your little girl’s First Holy Communion Day is fastly approaching. Only you will know your budget and what is most appropriate for you and your little girl.
We have all heard the stories of little girls with designer dresses, fake tans, glitter nails, electric light up tiaras and limousines, we have heard these stories repeated many times every year during the Communion season, but has anyone witnessed them?
Some parents will find it a worry of knowing when and where to go and shop for a First Communion dress for their little girl, and possible matching First Communion accessories and gifts. We have a few tips and advise that we can share with you from years of experience of internet retailing.
What are the trends today and what should you consider when shopping?
You will want to follow your parish requirements for First Holy Communion wear, if you have been given guidelines,follow them, as you will want you child to feel that she fits in with her peers.
First, be sure to talk with your child’s Catechist or Priest on their requirements for First Holy Communion dresses. Some have none, and some can be very specific.

Where to look and when to purchase a First Communion Dress?

When should we buy a First Communion Dress?
We are always asked " When should we buy a First Communion Dress" - As with many retailers that start selling winter clothes in August and Summer clothes in January - Communion dresses are seasonal so are not available all year. We recommend to start looking from January - we know it is early if your little girls First Holy Communion is not until April, May or June, and yes they will grow , we advise that if you purchase a Communion dress between January to March for a May to July First Communion that you allow between 1" to 1.5" for growth - it is better to purchase a Communion dress that is slightly to big or long, as the Communion dress can always be altered to fit nearer the time.
If you buy a perfect fit in January or February it will probably be too short in May to July and you will be unable to add to length - it is better to purchase a little bigger in size - if you leave purchasing your little girls Communion dress till April there may be limited stock and retailers will be unable to reorder as it is unlikely that the suppliers will have stock - find the Communion dress early, avoid any additional stress or disappointment either purchase or place a reserve deposit and enjoy this very special few months as your little girl prepares her journey into the Catholic faith.
Where can I buy a First Holy Communion Dress?
